Monitoring / Surveillance
Confidence is good but control is even better. This should also be the case when Offroading. It goes without saying that only high quality equipment should be used. Savings of a few dollars in pruchase price can cost deerly in the end. But goot equipment is not enough. It should also be maintained and monitored for wear and tear. Controls are essential on long tours or under high material stress on rough earth roads. Who wants to get stuck in the middle of the desert because of low oil or water level? Apart from daily routine checks like a look under the car and hood whether everything is still at its place, oil level and break and clutch fluid checks are also essential (leakage). It might also be necessary to clean the air filter in dusty areas or to change the diesel filter once in a while.
In addition to these maintenance tasks, it is also important to constantly monitor the processes while driving (e.g. turbo pressure, oil temperatur/pressure, tire pressure and - last but not least - battery charge. All this should become routine and/or be monitored by respective installations and instruments that show you instantly abnormal conditions.
