Water
Water is one of the most precious goods on our planet and specially on tours outside the developed world. But it can also be a carrier of germs and pathogenic organisms.
There exist various possibilities for storage and water treatment. Almost everything is possible; from stainless chromium steel tanks, UV disinfection to desalination. For my purposes, I have chosen a three-step purification. Chemicals (silver iodide, chlorine), active charcoal filter and finally a ceramic filter.
But not only storage can pose a problem, also refilling without water taps can be difficult, specially from creeks, rivers or lakes. The water hose is either not long enough or the vertical height is too big for some pumps. For such cases, I have modified my water installation in such a way, that I am able to backwash the water and to use two synchronised pums. With this, the water can be stored purified in the tank in almost all circumstances with a single push of a button.
